Archbishop Khajag Barsamian Participates in FAR Board Meeting

Archbishop Khajag Barsamian took part in the September 23, 2026, Board meeting of the Fund for Armenian Relief (FAR) at the Diocesan Center in New York, highlighting a longstanding legacy of faith-driven leadership and humanitarian service to Armenia.

Archbishop Barsamian has played a significant role in the life and growth of FAR over the years, including serving as President of the organization. During that time, his leadership helped strengthen FAR’s outreach and expand its capacity to serve the people of Armenia through both emergency assistance and long-term development programs.

Founded in 1988 in response to the devastating earthquake in Armenia, the Fund for Armenian Relief was established at a moment of profound national need. What began as an urgent humanitarian mission soon grew into one of the most respected Armenian charitable organizations, committed not only to relief, but also to rebuilding lives, strengthening communities, and creating sustainable opportunities for the future.

Over the past 35 years, FAR has raised more than $400 million and implemented more than 300 projects benefiting Armenia and Armenians in need. Through its wide-ranging efforts in education, healthcare, child protection, social services, and economic development, FAR has touched countless lives across the country. Its mission has remained rooted in compassion, dignity, and the belief that lasting change comes through sustained care and community investment.

Among the notable milestones in FAR’s history was Archbishop Barsamian’s role in advancing the organization’s international partnerships. As President of FAR, he signed an agreement with USAID that marked a major early U.S. partnership responding to Armenia’s post-earthquake needs, reinforcing FAR’s credibility and expanding opportunities for cooperation in support of Armenia’s development. That step reflected both FAR’s growing institutional strength and Archbishop Barsamian’s commitment to bringing meaningful assistance to the homeland.

Throughout his years of service, Archbishop Barsamian has been recognized as a devoted advocate for Armenia and for the role of the Armenian Church in humanitarian work. His leadership has helped unite spiritual vision with practical action, inspiring confidence among donors, partners, and communities alike.

His participation in the recent Board meeting served as a reminder of the values that have guided FAR from the beginning: service, solidarity, and hope. As the organization continues its work, the enduring contributions of leaders such as Archbishop Khajag Barsamian remain an important part of its story and mission.
